Principles

The four principles that underpin the IFRA-IOFI Sustainability Charter.

Principle 1

Voluntary and Inclusive

The Charter is open, inclusive and voluntary. It is open to all companies in the flavor and fragrance sectors, regardless of size or geography, and participation is entirely voluntary.

Principle 2

Complementary Initiative

The Charter complements initiatives undertaken by individual companies. It is designed to work alongside — not replace — existing company sustainability programs, adding value through shared benchmarking and best practice.

Principle 3

Aspirational and Achievable

The Focus Areas and Commitments seek to raise the bar across the F&F sectors. The Charter sets ambitious goals while remaining grounded in what is practically achievable, encouraging continuous improvement over time.

Principle 4

Anti-trust Compliant

The Charter complies with relevant competition laws. All activities under the Charter are designed to be fully consistent with applicable antitrust and competition regulations, in line with the IFRA-IOFI Antitrust Compliance Policy.

Addressing the UN Global Goals

The Charter is inspired by and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By committing to the Charter's five Focus Areas and 17 Commitments, signatory companies actively contribute to the global effort to achieve a more sustainable and equitable world.
